Dr. Anthony Camara presents "Orbital" by Samantha Harvey
About this Event
We're honoured to welcome Dr. Anthony Camara, Professor at the University of Calgary and specialist in the intersection of science and literature, to lead our discussion on the 2024 Booker Prize-winning Orbital.
Orbital is a slim yet profound novel that follows six astronauts and cosmonauts circling the Earth sixteen times in a single day aboard the International Space Station. Amidst the staggering news of grief from home, they witness gathering typhoons and shifting seasons from a perspective few will ever know. It is a story of climate change, human impact, and the deep, protective pull of the planet we share.
We're also delighted to welcome this year's scholarship winners from UCalgary and MRU.
Big Book Club talks are 45-60 minutes with time afterwards for audience questions and discussion.
Water and biscuits will be served. If you want coffee or tea, please bring your own in a lidded cup.
Many parking spaces in the main lot are reserved for pre-school pickup. Please arrive early to take advantage of accessible street parking.
