Winner of 11 Bessie Awards, Doug Varone and Dancers is known for emotionally expressive movement, musicality and deeply human storytelling. A leading force in American modern dance, the company blends athletic physicality with lyrical fluidity in works that explore vulnerability, memory and intimacy. In Double Octet, company members and students from the UCSB Department of Theater and Dance perform to works by Philip Glass in a collaboration shaped through Varone’s nationally acclaimed Education/Performance Project. The evening also includes No Matter How It Ends, which channels the restless beauty and quiet melancholy of Radiohead’s iconic album In Rainbows through movement that feels visceral and profoundly alive.
