Born and raised in the Palmetto State, Doug Jones first rose to regional prominence as the charismatic frontman and guitarist of Cravin’ Melon - a band formed at Clemson University that became known for its dynamic blend of roots rock and folk rock. As lead singer and songwriter, Doug helped guide Cravin’ Melon to Mercury Records in the late 1990s. Their 1997 release Red Clay Harvest featured the minor hit “Come Undone,” which climbed to #37 on Billboard’s Mainstream Rock chart.
Beyond his time with Cravin’ Melon, Doug has remained a fixture in the Southeast music scene. After the band disbanded in 2001, he launched a solo project, releasing Doug Jones Everybody, Doug Jones in 2007, and remained active in acoustic gigs, reunions, and regional stages.
More recently, the Cravin’ Melon name was revived for reunion performances throughout the 2010s and into the 2020s, with Doug at the helm alongside original and new members.
With deep roots in Americana and rock - combined with a well-earned reputation for energetic live shows - Doug Jones remains a vibrant force on South Carolina stages. Whether leading a full band or delivering stripped-down acoustic sets, his storytelling and guitar work continue to resonate with longtime fans and new listeners alike.
