The DOUEN community screening is a gathering of Caribbean folklore, bringing a vibrant community together to celebrate a story inspired by Trinidad and Tobago folklore.
This screening, open to the public, is a chance to reconnect with folklore, ancestry, and the power of storytelling. After the film, the cast and director will lead a Q&A session, offering a deeper dive into the film’s themes. The screening is not just a film event—it is a bridge between generations, bringing folklore into the present and inviting vital conversations in the community.
FILM LOGLINE: Sania must confront her family's dark past and generational trauma when she becomes haunted by a supernatural Caribbean entity who force her to face her grandmother's vengeful curse.

ABOUT THE WRITER & DIRECTOR:
Rooted in her identity as a first-generation Trinidadian American, Alyscia Cunningham’s early fascination with storytelling was sparked by the tales of resilience, folklore, and life lessons shared by her Caribbean elders. These narratives of triumph over adversity and cultural heritage fuel her creative passion, driving her work in both documentary and narrative filmmaking.
As the founder of , Alyscia champions the production of documentary and horror films written and directed by women of color. She co-organized with Women in Film and Video, fostering a support network for working moms and caregivers in film and TV. Alyscia is also a previous with the Arts and Humanities Council of Montgomery County, facilitating community conversations and creative engagements.
A recognized speaker, Alyscia’s contributions to societal discourse have not gone unnoticed. She has been celebrated as part of ‘The Next 1000’ (2021), received accolades from the , and lent her voice as one of the FrontLine Voices for the campaign, aiming to globally transform beauty paradigms. Her impactful work and advocacy have been featured in prominent media outlets including The Huffington Post, Cosmopolitan, The Washington Post, Fox 5, ABC 7, among others. about Alyscia.
