About this Event

We look forward to seeing you at this in-person conference. The venue is the beautiful Leeds Library, a hidden gem in the Centre of Leeds.

Simon Archer arrived in his psychoanalytic home after a bumpy ride from art school. The route was via: Adult education tutoring; plumbing decorating and joinery; art school teaching; art therapy and finally psychiatric social work as a group therapist in a therapeutic community.

He trained first with the British Association of Psychotherapists (Now part of the BPF) and became a member of its training committee. He moved to York in the 1980s and worked in full-time private practice while training with the Institute of Psychoanalysis.

He is a fellow of the British Psychoanalytical Society. He is a founder member of the North of England Association for Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy (Newcastle). He is retired from clinical practice but continues to teach, supervise, and assist with various psychoanalytic trainings.

Simon will be presenting his rich and thought provoking psychoanalytic paper, investigating both doubt and shame. He will be investigating the links between these aspects that we all struggle with and the sceptical parts of ourselves and those we may be treating. This can also connect to the more damaging cynical perspectives and feed into the more alarming fundamentalism that we see so much of in the world around us today.

Mathew Harrison is a Consultant in Liaison Psychiatry and Medical Psychotherapy in West Yorkshire. He trained in Adult Psychiatry and Medical Psychotherapy. He works within the NHS with individuals with unexplained physical symptoms and long term physical health conditions. He is a trustee of the Harry Guntrip Trust.

Chris Douglas is a Consultant in Adult Psychiatry and Medical Psychotherapy in Southwest Yorkshire and the Chair of the Harry Guntrip Trust.

This is an in person only event, a recording of which will be available to attendees for a limited period afterwards.
