About this Event

“DOUBLE RAINBOW” Workshop with Jennifer Moore

Dates: Thur Nov 13 1pm-5pm, Fri & Sat Nov 14-15 9am-5pm. Optional presentation Thur AM included and highly recommended. Ticket Price: WGGC Member $225. Non-member $250. Materials fee: $15; or none if participant prints own binder from provided pdf. Additional yarn purchase may be necessary (see below). Skills Needed: Intermediate. No prior experience in doubleweave is necessary, but students must know how to warp a loom. Class Limit: 15 Minimum Age: Adults only.

Ticketing details:

  • This is a 2 1/2 day workshop. Ticket also entitles participant to attend morning presentation on Thur Nov 13 10am - 11:30am.
  • WGGC Members have priority registration until Sept 30. On Oct 1 at 8am the workshop opens to the public.
  • Sales close on Oct 12 at 11pm.

This workshop will unlock the magic of doubleweave. Conventional shaft loom weaving constricts the weaver into making only a single layer of fabric that is no wider than the loom. Doubleweave increases your loom’s capabilities. A basic two-layered structure will enable you to mix and match colors, creating an amazing array of color mixtures. As you weave and your warp colors move past each other, you will experience a visual feast of iridescence and moire patterns. This sampler will provide a remarkable education in color theory and how optical mixtures work in weaving, as well as a great source of inspiration for future weaving projects.

Materials and Supplies:

  • Students should bring a 4- or 8-shaft table or floor loom warped according to instructions(if you don’t have your own loom, you may be able to borrow one of the Guild’s looms; very limited supply, only one 8-shaft loom available; must be reserved, first come). When you register, please answer the registration question about whether or not you need to borrow a loom from WGGC.
  • An 8-dent reed for 5/2 cotton, or a 10- or 12-dent reed for 10/2 cotton.
  • Need 2 shuttles, 6 bobbins pre-wound with each of 6 colors
  • Materials fee $15 per student for course notebook. Cash or Check Only. No materials fee if students print their own notebooks; pdf provided.
  • Materials required: 6 colors of either 8/2 or 5/2 perl cotton. For convenience, Lunatic Fringe has kits of different color ways specifically for this course which can be purchased from them or locally from Barb Gallagher at The Weavers Loft. Refer to Lunatic Fringe Yarns Double Rainbow Collections kits for colors.
  • 6 colored pencils or markers in blue, green, yellow, orange, red and purple
  • Scissors and other usual workshop supplies
  • A stack of sticky notes and small labels or tape for labeling
  • A small hand mirror can be useful for checking your bottom layer (cell phones work too!)
  • Bring Your lunch and beverages. A microwave and refrigerator are provided.

Artist Bio:

Jennifer Moore holds an MFA in Fibers and specializes in exploring mathematical patterns and musical structures in doubleweave wall hangings. She has exhibited throughout the world, receiving numerous awards for her work, and has been featured in many weaving publications. Jennifer lives in Santa Fe, New Mexico and travels extensively to teach workshops in doubleweave, color and geometric design. Jennifer was invited to teach doubleweave to indigenous Quechua weavers in Peru in 2013, where they are once again excelling in this technique which had been discontinued after the Spanish conquest. She is the author of The Weaver’s Studio: Doubleweave, several doubleweave videos and online courses, and numerous articles.

If you are not feeling well, please contact Karen Hughes instead of coming to the class. On a case-by-case basis, we may be able to reschedule you into a future class or provide a make-up lesson. (2) If the workshop is changed to a different date, you have the option to apply your ticket cost to retain your place; otherwise, a full refund can be given.

(3) If you are unable to attend the workshop and if you contact the workshop chair at least thirty days before the workshop date, your ticket cost can be refunded minus the Eventbrite ticketing fees.

(4) If you cancel less than thirty days before the workshop, your ticket cost will not be refunded, but it may be possible to make alternative arrangements so that your fee and place in the workshop are not forfeited; contact the workshop chair for options.
