About this Event
Get ready for an evening of poor taste, hubris, and the feeling of being hunted. Two films: Roar (1981) follows a naturalist who lives with big cats in Africa and doesn’t bother to turn up when his family comes to visit him. They must then fight for their lives sometimes literally to survive. Over 100 barely trained big cats tear their way through every moment of this film. Forcing improvisation to the point where they are given an acting and directing credit. 70 members of the cast and crew were injured during production. Grizzly Man (2005) is a Werner Herzog doc pieced together from the footage of grizzly enthusiast and environmentalist, Timothy Treadwell. Footage he filmed often by himself as he lived the last years of his life amongst grizzly bears in Alaska. A beautiful and horrifying documentary that shows the power and grace of some of the deadliest animals in their natural habitat. These films are two sides of the same coin, separated only by good luck. One a tragedy and the other a horrendous comedy of errors just barely avoided. Get ready for a stressful evening!
