• August 7: Preview + book reading 6-9pm
• August 8: Opening day from 12pm-9pm, with live music performances in the evening
• August 9: Final exhibition day from 12pm-9pm

This August 8th will be the 40th anniversary of my mother, Maggie Cook Polacheck’s passing, and I want to commemorate her life’s work with a retrospective art show — bringing all her paintings and collages in one place, at Blackfeather Gallery.
I lost my mom to cancer when I was 7 years old, and that I have been processing her loss and her life through writing for many years now. These collected writings are finally culminating in a book, titled Double Eternity.
The Kickstarter campaign to make this all happen is LIVE!
I’m gonna need a lot of help to make it happen, so I hope you will choose to be part of my village here — because it’s gonna take one! Crowdfunding can’t happen without a crowd!

My mother, Maggie Cook Polacheck was a painter, collage artist, silversmith, and musician in Austin’s hippie heyday. She was obsessed with Hank Williams, Black cowboys (like Nat Love and Samuel Pickett), the intersection of psychedelia with the Pre-Raphaelite and Arts and Crafts movements at the turn of the century, and the country and western music scene at the Grand Old Opry. Her influences are reflected in her oil paintings, multi-media sculptures, and intricate collages.
Her scrapbooks of 1970s counterculture, love-ins, and epic concert posters capture a moment in this city that only still exists in the memory of our eclectic elders, and they are sadly beginning to depart for the music festival in the great beyond.
This showing of her art will be of great interest to fans of cosmic cowboy aesthetics, freak folk connoisseurs, and people who long for a vision of Austin as it was, circa 1970 — so please help us spread the word far and wide, and come out to celebrate and honor Maggie with us on the weekend of August 8th!
