Don’t Be So Traumatic! From the Scene to the Emergency Department
About this Event
🚑 What happened to the patient before the documentation ever reached your screen?
Medical coders spend their days interpreting the story documented in the medical record—but that story often begins long before a provider opens the chart.
This October, the AAPC River City Chapter is taking you beyond the documentation for a special in-person learning experience:
🚨 DON’T BE SO TRAUMATIC!
From the Scene to the Emergency Department
We’ll follow the patient journey from THE SCENE → THE ED → THE CODE, exploring the processes, terminology, equipment, care, and clinical decision-making that ultimately become the documentation healthcare professionals work with every day.
🚒 PART ONE: JFRD — BEHIND THE RIG
We’ll begin with an up-close look at a Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department emergency response vehicle.
Explore the rig while learning more about the processes, terminology, equipment, and care involved in emergency response before the patient ever reaches the Emergency Department.
For coders who normally encounter this story only after it has become documentation, this is an opportunity to see where that story begins.
🏥 PART TWO: JFRD → ED — THE PROCESS
Then we'll follow the patient into the Emergency Department.
Presented by Dr. Bryant
Medical Director
UF Health Emergency & Urgent Care Center – Lane Ave.
Explore what happens once a patient reaches the ED, including the transition of care and interesting or unusual emergency cases.
Together, these two perspectives provide a behind-the-scenes look at the clinical journey that eventually becomes the documentation—and ultimately, the code.
