This three‑part series explores both the mental and physical development of the ridden horse through correct, logical, progressive training.
These sessions will delve into both the psychology and biomechanics of our horses. Meaning, they are ideal for everyone, from owners, recreational riders through to elite riders and coaches.
Part 3 - The benefits of lateral work to help the horse develop both physically and mentally
In this session we will looking for the harmonious partnership, the happy horse that is mentally confident, physically strong, and capable of performing with ease, expression, and long‑term soundness. Rob will look to progress the lateral work from shoulder in, to travers and half pass.
Rob Lovatt is a Fellow of British Horse Society, BHS Chief Examiner and an Honorary Fellow of Lancashire University for his commitment to vocational training, with decades of experience coaching riders from grassroots through to elite level.
Rob’s coaching philosophy is; "Keep it as simple as possible for both the horse and the rider to understand, with a strong emphasis on explaining to horses, rather than making them do something".
Across practical, discussion‑led sessions, Rob will share with us exercises and his top tips and explain why it is very important when training horses for any aspect of ridden work, that there is a clear and simple process for the horse to follow and that we shouldn't 'Don't Skip the Basics'.
Horse's mental development will look at:
* Enjoyment of work
* Emotional maturity
* Subtle communication
physical development, will look at:
* Longevity
* Developing the lateral work
* Self-carriage
General admission - £20 per session, or £55 if all 3 sessions are booked together in advance of the first session.
BHS APCS - £17.50 per session, or £47.50 if all 3 sessions are booked together in advance of the first session..
This event counts for 3 CPD points for BHS APCs
All payment transactions will be subject to a small booking fee to cover the booking and payment processing charges from the provider.
