Don’t Mute Moe is not a tell-all tale of a D.C. man back home from serving time in Pr*son who blazed through a path of hard knocks (some self-administered) to become a vociferous community activist turned pioneering urban entrepreneur. Nor is Don’t Mute Moe, written by Ron “Moe” Moten with Jeff Anderson, a self-glorification piece aimed at presenting in flattering terms, a Ron Moten as the most competent person in the nation’s capital to tackle our social ills. Don’t Mute Moedives deeper than that: into a world known by many, but only experienced by some, where opportunities, justice, and moral compasses are out of whack. And in true Moten fashion, this strong Black man still gets in your face with solutions-but now in a nicer way.

--Colbert I. King, Pulitzer Prize winning Washington Post columnist

I don’t believe I’ve ever met anyone as committed to the streets of Washington D.C. as Ron Moten. I always admired D.C.’s “Mayor for Life,” Marion Barry, because of his total commitment to the people of D.C.. Ron Moten has that same kind of laser focus. He doesn’t look out an office window and talk about remedies for the street, he walks those streets, talks to those streets and listens to those streets and gets actively involved to address those concerns and affect change. Ron works tirelessly to change situations and attitudes that help to create a better tomorrow for those who sometimes can’t see past today. When his life’s work is done, Ron will be able to say unequivocally, I left it better than I found it.

Don't Mute Moe is the story of the streets straight with no chaser. Some may not want to hear it, but Ron’s not going to stop telling it. Everyone in D.C. knows, from The Capitol to The Go-Go..."You Don’t Mute Moe.”

[Donnie Simpson has been an entertainment icon, trailblazer, media legend, and the undisputed king of radio in Washington D.C. over the course of a remarkable fifty-year career. In 2004, Donnie was inducted into the BET Walk of Fame. In 2015, he was inducted into The R&B Music Hall of Fame. The only non-musician so honored at that point. And, on August 17, 2020, it was announced that Donnie will be inducted into The Radio Hall of Fame Class of 2020]

How do you want to be remembered? As an individual, this question is a lens through which you make decisions about your life in the present hoping it will make an impact or leave a legacy.

Don’t Mute Moe illuminates how Ron “Moe” Moten, an activist fighting for equity and the economic development (among other things) of DC’s Black community, has taken on the responsibility of answering this question, not just for himself, but for the entire community.

If you merely look at the surface of this work, you’ll read the redemption story of a man who loves his hometown, doesn’t mince words, and who will find a community focused solution to almost any challenge he encounters.

I encourage you to read deeper. This book is an incremental uncovering of the steps Moe has taken to ensure the Black community in DC isn’t just remembered by future generations. He is actively putting the pieces in place for Black DC to grow with the city and not be pushed out or MUTED.

I first became acquainted with Ronald "Moe" Moten fifteen years ago while serving as Chair of Trinity University's Criminal Justice program in Washington, DC.  Few know it, but Moe helped put over sixty young people-- mostly women-- through college, all of whom are now in mid-career and working in public service throughout the Washington Metropolitan Area.  Moe is one of the most insightful, effective, inclusive, and inspiring "neighborhood scholars" (a term he introduced to me) I have ever met.  He brings a depth and incisiveness that is grounded in experience and reflected upon by a deeply engaged, optimistic human being. With a Midas touch, everything Moe engages in is left better for his presence

All Attendees will have opportunity to get signed copy of Moten's much anticipated book.
