“Donald Beaman…conjures up a twilit landscape with shimmering guitars, clever-but-not-fussy arrangements and vocals that recall the enigmatic lilts of Cass McCombs and Will Oldham…in the classic folk/rock/country vein, while still feeling absolutely fresh…quietly gorgeous…filled with empathy and warmth.” — Aquarium Drunkard
Donald Beaman is a Bay Area-based singer/songwriter/guitarist. Over the course of a decade he has released five albums comprised of songs centered around his sometimes gravelly, often lilting vocals; distinctive fingerpicked guitar playing; and meticulous, imagery-rich lyrics. The songs range from stark solo acoustic performances to lush, full band arrangements of brimming pedal steel, jazz-adjacent drumming, accordion, organ, piano and electric guitar.
In a four-star review, MOJO described the songs on his current release, 2024’s Fog On Mirror Glass (Royal Oakie Records) as, “…radically subdued and all the better for it…drifting along like slices of life observed through smoky glass…as much about the vibe as the detail, however the detail is razor sharp…the dictionary definition of less is more.”
Beaman performs live both solo and with a backing band and has shared the stage with Jonathan Richman, Sharon Van Etten, Michael Hurley, Mdou Moctar, Little Wings, Rosali, Marisa Anderson, William Tyler, Hurray for the Riff Raff, Shannon Lay, Xylouris White, Mary Lattimore, Richard Buckner, Six Organs of Admittance, and many others.
Prior to his solo work, as a member of The Double, Beaman was at the epicenter of the New York City music scene of the early to mid 2000s. The Double released three albums, including Loose in the Air (Matador Records); recorded a John Peel Session for the BBC at Maida Vale Studios; and toured extensively throughout the United States and in Europe, sharing the stage with with Feist, The Black Keys, Interpol, Ratatat, The Mountain Goats, Cass McCombs, The Go-Betweens, M83, TV On The Radio, Blonde Redhead and many more.
He is currently recording his sixth solo album with producer Chris Cohen (Weyes Blood, Deerhoof), slated for release in early 2027.
Lucas Gunn plays fingerstyle 12 string guitar and delivers a combination of Avant-Garde, American Primitive and Classical music while exploring different open tunings on the 12 string. His debut album, You Shouldn't Try to Borrow Other People’s Skin, is coming out on Carbon Records and Feeding Tube Records. Influences include John Fahey, Mississippi John Hurt, and the Bonzo Dog Band.
“American-Primitive guitar madness from the Pacific NW. Member of The Lavender Flu.” - Joe Tunis (Carbon Records)
