DOMINIONATED proudly presents HEAR HERE: Vancouver, a one-night-only celebration of local music, art and talent.
Since 2016, DOMINIONATED has been committed to conversations about what it means to create and consume music made within the geopolitical area of Turtle Island, referred to as “Canada.” DOMINIONATED’s independent collective of music enthusiasts always aims to amplify and celebrate music that may otherwise go unacknowledged, specifically music made by BIPOC and 2SLGBTQIA+ artists who have historically been marginalized by the music industry and media.
HEAR HERE: Vancouver captures the spirit and intent of what DOMINIONATED is all about: to recognize local talent and community builders who are doing their part to build connections and start conversations about where they are from. From the moment the organizing team decided to take HEAR HERE to Vancouver, the choice of a headlining performer was clear; it had to be Devours (https://devours.bandcamp.com/album/homecoming-queen).
The brainchild of multi-hyphenate artist and producer Jeff Cancade, Devours has been a dedicated and vocal champion and supporter of Vancouver’s music scene. Their most recent release, Homecoming Queen, was recently—and deservedly!—named to the 2024 Polaris Music Prize Long List, and DOMINIONATED is thrilled to be featuring Devours in their hometown. Joining them on the HEAR HERE: Vancouver stage are:

MA$$ANK (https://massank.bandcamp.com/album/once-more-with-feeling) is a fan of DIY projects and loves experimenting and producing a myriad of music genres out of “boredom and curiosity” that are captivating and engaging. She mixes her knowledge of visual design and video editing to curate a unique musical world that is fluid, angsty and ever-changing.
The Hausplants (https://thehausplants.com/) is an indie punk trio whose music is heavily influenced by post-punk, funk, synth-pop, a little bit of folk, and the desire to entertain and emotionally support your houseplants.
Bukola (https://www.bukolamusic.com/) is a musician who blends contemporary R&B and jazz to create her own soulful sound. Her 2021 debut EP, The Chronicles of a Teenage Mind, is the work of a mature artist that radiates with power and courage.

LAND ACKNOWLEDGEMENT:
This event is happening on the stolen ancestral land of the Musqueam, Squamish, and Tsleil-Waututh peoples. We are all responsible for practicing gratitude for our ability to live here and for being part of decolonization and reparation-paying in our communities. As community organizers, we prioritize supporting Indigenous businesses, performers, professionals, and organizations, as well as people of colour, LGBTQIA+ folks, and people with disabilities.

ACCESSIBILITY INFO:
There's a sloped driveway entrance in the back alley, a 36"-wide entry door, and a wheelchair-accessible bathroom on site. If you experience anything at the show you want to talk about, email Show Manager Aly Laube at [email protected].
We have zero tolerance for oppressive behaviour at our shows. If you exhibit violent or discriminatory behaviour, you will be approached by a staff member and potentially asked to leave the space.
We actively try to create an environment at our events that feel safe and welcoming for everyone. Consent is mandatory.
