Understand risk assessment, safety planning and the role of the MARAC in this 1 day course.
About this Event

Survivors of domestic abuse and their children may experience numerous risks to their physical safety, mental health, financial security and emotional wellbeing. Risk is also dynamic and can change rapidly, so it is important that professionals who are supporting people impacted by domestic abuse are able to appropriately assess risk, create plans to increase safety, and apply a multi-agency approach to ensure that those at the highest risk of harm receive a robust and immediate response.

This 1-day course is designed to explore domestic abuse (DA) risk, how to assess this and how to use this information to formulate effective safety and support plans. This course also includes information on the Multi-Agency Risk Assessment Conference (MARAC) and additional information for learners on potential legal options that survivors can access.

Learning objectives

• Understand the risk assessment process within a DA context and how to apply this as part of a specific role:

o The risk-led approach

o Using the DASH-RIC

o Using professional judgement

o Monitoring changes to risk:

• Understand the principles behind safety and support planning, and creating plans for clients that are informed by risk assessment

• Understand the key functions of a Multi-Agency Risk Assessment Conference (MARAC)

• Understand the importance of self-care when working within the field of DA

W ho can attend this course

Only professionals based within a Brighton & Hove organisation can attend this training course.

Additional course details

There are no requirements for pre-course learning. A handout and activity pack will be provided to all attendees on the day of the course.

If you have booked a place and are unable to attend then please notify us as soon as possible via emailing [email protected].

Attendees will be contacted one week ahead of the course to confirm their attendance. As this training is very popular this helps us to offer vacant places to other professionals at the earliest opportunity.

It is recommended that professionals have attended the 1-day training course “Domestic Abuse Awareness” and/or have a robust understanding of domestic abuse awareness prior to booking a place on this course.

Participant wellbeing

Attendees will be completing this training course within a group environment. Domestic abuse can be an emotionally impactful subject to discuss, and whilst trainers will strive to create a safe environment for learners it is important that all attendees are aware of their own triggers for trauma, how they may respond and how to care for themselves. Please do contact us on 0300 323 9985 or [email protected] and ask to speak confidentially to a trainer about any needs you may have ahead of the course.
