We spend an enormous amount of time being told how to change our bodies. Lose weight. Get fit. Eat better. Look younger. Love your body. Accept your body. Instead of asking, “How do I change my body?”, what if we asked, “How do I change my relationship with it?”
In this lively, research-informed conversation, behavioral therapist Marybeth Sherrin explores what we know about body image, appearance pressures, weight loss, and the surprisingly complicated business of living in a body. We'll look at why body dissatisfaction isn't limited to any particular body type or size, how social media has changed the way we see ourselves, and why even well-intentioned messages about body positivity can sometimes leave us feeling like we're failing at feeling good about ourselves.
And then we'll get to the unexpected part: comedy. Dive into why humor can make uncomfortable subjects easier to talk about, expose the absurdity in the stories we tell ourselves, and change the way we feel living in our bodies. This isn't a lecture about learning to love your body. It's a conversation about learning to live in your body.

About the speaker
Marybeth Sherrin is a licensed behavioral therapist, author of My Hungry Head, speaker, and producer of the upcoming musical comedy Does My Ass Look Fat. Her work sits at the intersection of psychology, health, behavior change, and storytelling.
For more than 20 years, she has worked in obesity medicine and behavioral health, including building and leading clinical programs within major Boston-area hospitals. Her current work brings together research, clinical experience, storytelling, and the arts to make difficult health conversations more human, more accessible, and a lot more interesting.
