Does Anyone Else Smell Curry?It was said by a friend. A joke. I said nothing. Worse. I laughed. Why did I laugh? I will spend the next 45 minutes trying to answer that question.
Meet Kiren Virdee - British, Punjabi, and Sikh (in that order??). She’s always felt disconnected from her heritage - except for food. A source of connection but also embarrassment. Through recordings, film, interviews, lip sync, spoken word and movement, Does Anyone Else Smell Curry? is a raw reclamation of the pain, duality and fragmentation that is the British South Asian experience.
How do we see ourselves? How do others see us? Are we... not more than curry?
