About this Event

The WA Made Film Festival’s Documentary Showcase brings together a rich mix of Western Australian stories, told from many angles and lived experiences. From migrant architecture shaping the streets of Vincent to the fight to save an all-ages music venue, these films capture culture, memory and change. Meet artists transforming scrap into myth, Elders sharing deep cultural knowledge, refugees rebuilding their lives, and locals preserving history in unexpected ways. From sacred traditions to quirky roadside icons, lost venues to bold personal journeys, this showcase celebrates the diversity, resilience and creativity that define documentary filmmaking in WA.

  • Vincent Fediterranean

With their proud arches, columns and balustrades, homes built by and for Southern European migrant families in the 1950s, 60s, 70s and 80s are a strong presence in the City of Vincent.

  • Sweet Oblivion

A celebration of the Y HQ all ages gig space in Perth, Western Australia, the people who make it and what we risk if we lose it.

  • Through the Lens

  • The Last Rooster: Artist Len Zuks

  • The Road Ahead

Arnold Cook overcame the loss of his vision to win a scholarship to England in 1948 where he was eventually paired with Dreena, a black Labrador who became Australia’s first guide dog when he brought her back to Perth.

  • Love, Rock En Masse

In 1970, a groundbreaking event shook conservative Perth when Bakery performed at St George’s Cathedral in the first rock mass.

  • Black Cockatoos: Cultural Significance

Through the voices of Elders, the film explores how these iconic birds are more than just wildlife; they are messengers, seasonal markers, and sacred kin.

  • A Beginners Guide to Yowie Hunting

The Yowie, an elusive Bigfoot species native to Western Australia, evades the public eye whilst attracting an eclectic group of followers.
