Documentary Filmmaking Workshop: Solo Storytelling for One-Person Crews

Whether you're a beginner or looking to sharpen your storytelling skills, this class will guide you through the full process of capturing compelling interviews and meaningful b-roll — all in a 2 hour workshop!

We’ll bring in a local artist, craftsperson, or creative — someone with a story to tell and something to show. You’ll learn how to:

• Set up and conduct a professional interview (even as a one-person crew)
• Capture clean audio and flattering lighting
• Direct and frame your subject with intention
• Shoot supporting b-roll that enhances the narrative

By the end of the session, you’ll have filmed a 5–8 minute mini-documentary. After the workshop, we’ll edit the footage and send you the final piece — so you can see how your work comes together in post-production.
