UK PREMIERE
A joyous, poetic and suitably anarchic portrait of The Fugs, the overlooked yet hugely influential 1960s band from New York City that put the punk into folk and pushed rock’n’roll into radical new territory. Poets Ed Sanders and Tuli Kupferberg, alongside drummer Ken Weaver, became fearless champions of free speech, provoking radio bans and FBI surveillance with their anti-war songs and infamous 1967 attempt to levitate the Pentagon. Featuring rare performance footage and interviews with Aline and R. Crumb, Bob Dylan, Lenny Kaye and Chris Stein, Fugs Film! celebrates the band’s mischievous humour, political defiance and enduring, uncompromising cry for freedom.
