History Society members can come along to a members-only guided tour of Dockroyd Graveyard (Dockroyd Lane, Oakworth) on Wednesday 5th August 2026.
The graveyard was Oakworth's Wesleyan Methodist graveyard. The first burial, in 1844, was a one-year-old boy, Thomas Ickeringill, and the last was 70-year-old Mabel Falkingham in 1969. In the years between more than 2500 people were buried here and 572 of them were children under the age of five. There are at least 770 graves with 2500 people interred here. The Dockroyd Graveyard Trust was established in 2020 to restore and maintain the graveyard.
We are meeting at the Graveyard entrance at 6.30pm. It will cost £5 per member. Places are limited so please contact Tim Neal in advance to secure your place.
The visit will last around ninety minutes. Please note, although the Graveyard is carefully maintained, the ground can still be rough and uneven so please wear sensible footwear. The tour is completely outdoors. Books published by the Dockroyd Graveyard Trust may be available to buy on the evening (see their website for titles available and cost).
