DO YOU THINK MY ANCESTORS WATCH ME DOOMSCROLL?

“Do You Think My Ancestors Watch Me Doomscroll?” is a musical poetry performance with poetry by Dina Lobo and music by Emmanuel Lacopo. The set is an ode to the thread that connects us, shaped by the tension between the past and the discomfort of the present. It explores the juxtaposition of doomscrolling as a form of distraction and escapism alongside ancestral presence, questioning the ways the past is often spoken for or romanticized.

DJ Jon Raja will be playing a special vinyl set to for the second half on the night: Jon Raja is the third generation of vinyl collectors/DJs in his family. His sets explore this generational exchange as a means of sharing moments with loved ones present and past.

Dina Lobo is a Syrian/Indian performing poet and artist constantly challenging the limits of what a poet can do with their art. Her work carries the voices of womanhood often left unheard and gives space for the ugly, irrational and beautiful to run free in the playground of femininity. Dina explores themes of sensuality, self perception, ageism and nostalgia in her performances.
Emmanuel Lacopo’s musical compositions accompany the poetry. Lacopo is redefining 21st-century classical music through, innovation, and boundary-pushing artistry. His music bridges classical guitar tradition with progressive metal, electronic music and post-rock, creating a uniquely post-classical experience.

Jugaar is a Urdu Hindi word loosely translating to “making do.” A practice rooted in resourcefulness within constraint and resilience amid struggle, it is more than a DIY approach - it is an ethos of survival. Jugaar is communal, grounded in mutual aid in hardship and creativity as resistance.
