About this Event

Music on the Brain: Do You Hear What I Hear?

Music is a powerful social activity. As listeners and performers, we engage with the music and our brain waves begin to synchronize. Music has also been shown to activate networks of the brain that give rise to emotion, memory, and the control of movement.

Join jazz pianist/composer and 2019 Zuckerman Institute Jazz Artist-in-Residence and Zuckerman Institute neuroscientist as they explore how our shared and private sensibilities shape the way we listen, respond to, and create jazz music. Help us curate a musical journey as we celebrate the ways music touches us both individually and as a community.

Music on the Brain is a collaboration between the National Jazz Museum in Harlem and Columbia University’s Zuckerman Institute.
