We made a movie!! The premiere is free but you have to RSVP to reserve your seat. From 2005 to 2020, Baltimore’s music scene went from near obscurity to being named Best Music Scene in the nation by Rolling Stone magazine. But the breadth and depth of the scene has never before been documented in one place.
“Do Whatever You Want, All the Time” is a new short documentary produced by WTMD Studios which gathers the diverse strands of Baltimore’s music community and presents them with a fresh perspective.
No genre is off limits: the film highlights Baltimore Club music, Americana, hip-hop, dream pop, jazz, indie rock and more.
We hear from Dapper Dan Midas, the city’s first openly gay rapper, pioneering experimental musician Dan Deacon, guitar prodigy Lindsey Jordan of Snail Mail, rapper Shordie Shordie, indie rockers Wye Oak, jammers Pigeons Playing Ping Pong and many others.
Beach House, one of Baltimore’s most popular bands, give their first video appearance in more than five years in this film.
“Do Whatever You Want” also features rare live performance videos from Dan Deacon, Snail Mail, Wye Oak and others, as well as a soundtrack with music from more than a dozen Baltimore artists.
This premiere is free, thanks to support from bakerartist.org, but RSVPS ARE REQUIRED!
Following the screening, we'll have a panel discussion featuring musicians Dapper Dan Midas and Lexie Mountain, photographer J.M. Giordano, director Sam Sessa and editor/co-producer Julia Golonka -- hosted by Alex Cortright of the WTMD Morning Show.
Free popcorn will be provided for the first 200 guests.
The screening starts at 7 p.m. in the Charles Theatre's main auditorium.
This film was made possible by Human Being Productions, as well as generous donations of music licensing rights and time by many Baltimore musicians. It will only be presented for free, to serve and inform our community.
