For Earth Day 2024, Ableton together with DJs for Climate Action, invites music makers to meet artists who sample the soundscape and explore the symbiotic relationship between nature, music, and environmental consciousness. Let’s begin a conversation about how this practice can lead us to a more meaningful collaboration with our planet.

Sampling with Minor Science

How can we use Field Recordings to build tension, add texture, and define a sonic world within which our track lives? Step into the fascinating world of Minor Science, a Berlin-based British music maker, DJ, and journalist with an insatiable curiosity for sounds and their origins. Minor Science will share his perspective on the fundamental role of sampling in his music-making process, drawing from extensive self-made sample collections gathered from various sources.

Listening with Lola Villa

Embark on a captivating listening session with Lola Villa, a composer, DJ, and visual artist, who invites us to reconnect with nature. She draws profound influence from Japan, fusing respect for nature and serenity into her work. Villa combines Shinrin-yoku, or forest bathing, with her passion for technology and electronic music, creating a blend of deep listening and sound curation.

Her Art: Villa's art merges field recordings with sound design, simulating nature's therapeutic effects and highlighting the intimate connection between our inner self and the external world. Her unique approach weaves together the human essence in electronic music, climate awareness, and a deep attunement to nature's rhythms, balancing electronic innovation with nature-inspired melodies.
