ABOUT DJ
DJ Combs is a bass trombonist from Las Vegas, Nevada. He began his musical journey at age seven on piano, later studying violin and string bass before discovering the trombone at 14 through his local public-school program. DJ earned his Bachelor of Music in Performance, cum laude, from Utah State University in 2024, where he studied with Lane Weaver, and is currently pursuing his master’s degree here at Lynn, in the studio of Dan Satterwhite. His additional teachers and mentors include Craig Moore and Alex Knutrude.
DJ has performed with ensembles such as the Utah Symphony Orchestra (Salute to Youth side-by-side), the Banff Arts Centre Brass Quintet, the Caine Brass Quintet, and the Lynn Philharmonia Orchestra. He has participated in masterclasses with leading trombonists including Charlie Vernon, Megumi Kanda, Collin Williams, George Curran, and Brian Hecht.
Outside of music, DJ enjoys cooking, rock climbing, and knitting.
