DIZZY’S ULTRA-UNSERIOUS BACK YARD RACE Event Overview
Welcome to Dizzy’s Ultra-Unserious Back Yard Race—an intentionally low-key, high-fun endurance event hosted by Northside Night Run Club.
This is not your typical race. There are no corrals, no official timing chips, and no pressure to perform. Instead, this event is built around a simple concept: show up, run a loop, come back, and decide if you want to go again.
Participants will run a 5K loop course, beginning at 7:00 AM. A new loop will start on the hour, every hour, with all remaining runners starting together. The final loop will begin at 10:00 PM, with the event concluding no later than 11:00 PM, creating a maximum duration of 16 hours. After completing each loop, runners will return to the start/finish area to rest, refuel, and reset before the next round begins.
You can run one loop or all sixteen. You can treat it as a workout, a long run, or a full-on endurance challenge. There are no expectations—just the opportunity to test your limits (or not) in a supportive, community-driven environment.
Because the event may extend into later hours of the day, runners should come prepared for changing light conditions and bring appropriate gear if needed.
This is a self-supported, informal event. As a “race entry,” participants are asked to bring a snack or drink to share at the aid station. This helps create a communal, supportive environment for all runners. Donations are also welcome but not required.
Participants are responsible for their own pacing, hydration, nutrition, and gear. While there will be a central gathering area, support is minimal, and runners should plan accordingly.
Backyard Ultra Format – Event Rules
- The course is a fixed 5K loop.
- A new loop starts precisely on the hour, every hour, beginning at 7:00 AM.
- The final loop begins at 10:00 PM. No additional loops will start after this time.
- All runners must be present and ready to start at the top of each hour.
- If you are not at the start line when the next loop begins, you are done (DNF).
- Runners must complete each loop within the one-hour time limit to continue.
- There are no late starts and no exceptions.
- The event ends after the final loop is completed. The runner(s) who complete the most loops are considered the winners.
