DIY-KE STYLE 102!

Welcome to the second collaboration between G(end)er Swap and the queer fashion platform Dyke Digital. We are super excited to announce the next in our 'DIY-KE Style 101' series - Workshop 2: Style as Activism - an exploration of how style has played/continues to play a key role in queer activism.

Event Overview:

Taking place at The Hackney Showroom, the day will begin at 1:15 pm with a (queer) style activist history seminar and a badge customisation workshop from the incredible Emily Witham(@withamemily).

Followed by a style symposium from 3pm, featuring two 20 minute seminars. First, a session with Freddy from Rough Fabrics on how to patch together fabrics and to learn more about integrating slogans into your DIY style (@roughfabrics), next visit Bvtch Boots for a session and live demo on restorative leather work and learn about leather history(@bvtchboots) - you will also have an opportunity to pay for a boot service by donation to Astrid AKA Bvtch Boots.

For this event we will have a curated style and activism reading corner and resource hub, both full and half day ticket goers can hang out and read, explore our resources and displayed t-shirts/posters and more!

* Doors will lock at 1:15pm for workshops so make sure you are there on time*

For: LGBTQ+ & gender-diverse individuals only (16+)

Your Full Day Ticket gets you:

A 2 hour long workshop (including materials)

Two extra interactive seminars at our style symposium

Access the onsite reading corner featuring queer activist books/resources

Access additional services and initiatives offered by collaborators in the style symposium

Learn about queer style history and activism via our digital style resources available on site

Your Half Day Ticket gets you:

Two interactive seminars (40 minutes total)

Access additional services and initiatives offered by collaborators in the style symposium

Access the onsite reading corner featuring queer activist books/resources

Learn about queer style history and activism via our digital style resources available on site

About tickets & refreshments:

Tickets are pay what you can DOWN TO ZERO.

Lunch and snacks provided throughout the day for both ticket holders.

There is a Sainsbury's 1 minute walk away if you need anything.

Hackney Showroom will have a 0% alcohol bar running by donation. This is a SOBER event.

Tickets are NON REFUNDABLE.

PLEASE DO NOT BRING PEANUT PRODUCTS INTO THE EVENT. One of our collaborators has a life threatening allergy.

*Please note that photos/videos will be taken on site during the event. If you do not want to be in these shots there will be stickers available for you to wear throughout the day.
