Do you have 5 minutes or less of audio as an .mp3 file? Do you want it on a 7" record? Come cut your own & design your album cover!
About this Event

We normally listen to vinyl records at Library Mixtape. Have you ever wanted to try making your own?

This is the first in a series of 12 workshops in partnership with . We will be meeting approximately once a month through August 2026 to make records together. See end of description for full list of workshop dates.

"Consonant is an arts collective based in Philadelphia that runs a record label and a micro-press. Its founding members are and , a married couple, and we frequently collaborate with friends and co-conspirators in the U.S. and abroad. We aim to put out high-quality DIY releases that maintain a feeling of fun and whimsy."

These workshops will mostly meet on second Wednesdays of the month, from 5:30-7:30PM. For our first session, we'll be getting acquanted with Katie & Joe, learning about the vinyl production process, listening to some previously released Consonant albums, and cutting our own! If you don't get a chance to make a record on the first workshop, keep an eye out for more dates!

What you'll make: 1 7" record, with up to 5 minutes of audio per side. Due to time constraints, you will likely have one side with content, the other side blank. This record is cut at 33 1/3 RPM. There will be supplies to design your own album art (on a paper sleeve).

Due to time constraints, we are only able to make 20 records in a session- they are cut in real time, so 5 mintues of music is 5 minutes of cutting! By getting an Eventbrite ticket, you are reserving your materials and 5 minutes of time to cut on the lathe cutter.

Did you successfully get a ticket? Great! Please help this event run smoothly by emailing your .mp3 file to . This cuts down on setup time during the event and lets us cut more records!

Are we sold out but you still want to cut a record? You can add your name to the waitlist by emailing [email protected]. If anyone cancels Jane will be going through the list in the order you email them. Folks on the waitlist get first dibs on tickets for our next session in November. Regardless of ticket or waitlist status you are welcome to attend and listen to music with us!
