About this Event
Join us at the Peach Cobbler Factory Studio for a hands-on workshop where you will design and construct your very own elastic-waist midi skirt.
This beginner-friendly garment construction class will walk you through the essential steps of sewing clothes, from taking accurate body measurements to stitching a clean elastic waistband and finishing smooth hems.
What You Will Learn
- How to accurately measure yourself for custom-fit clothing
- Fabric layout, grainlines, and cutting techniques
- Stitching side seams and finishing raw edges
- Constructing an elastic casing and inserting elastic smoothly
- Measuring and stitching a clean, even hem

In this 2-hour hands-on session, we demystify the machine and build your muscle memory from the ground up:
- Garment Construction Basics: Understand how flat fabric is shaped, cut, and stitched into wearable clothing.
- Essential Beginner Toolkit: Learn what basic tools you actually need to set up a stress-free sewing station at home.
- Machine Anatomy & Controls: Identify key parts, dials, and functions across different machine models.
- Threading with Confidence: Practice threading both drop-in and front-load bobbin systems.
- Fabric Fundamentals: Discover the difference between structured vs. stretchy fabrics and how to handle them.
- Hands-On Stitching Practice: Get direct machine time practicing straight seams, turning sharp corners, backstitching, and troubleshooting basic tension issues like a pro.

Located in the heart of Takoma, DC, right near the MD/DC line.
Metro: Red Line to Takoma Station — Less than a 3-minute walk to the venue! Exit the station and head straight down 4th St NW.
Driving & Parking: Free and meter street parking are available on 4th St NW and surrounding residential blocks. (Tip: Since evening classes start after 5:00 PM, parking is usually easy to find along the street!)
Building & Venue Access:
Ground-floor entry with direct street-level access (no stairs, elevators, or door codes required!).
Fully wheelchair accessible.
Head inside, grab a seat in our reserved workshop area, and feel free to order a sweet treat from the counter before class starts!
Supplies: All sewing machines, tools, threads, and fabrics are provided on site. You don't need to bring a thing—just bring your creativity!
