Celebrate Diwali – The Festival of Lights with Third Street Music School!
Celebrate Diwali with your loved ones at the Third Street Diwali Festival, a vibrant, family-friendly afternoon of art, rhythm, and community that brings the magic of the Festival of Lights to life through immersive cultural traditions.
Observed by millions of people across India and the global South Asian diaspora, Diwali is a major five-day autumn festival symbolizing the spiritual victory of light over darkness, good over evil, and knowledge over ignorance.
This joyful neighborhood gathering offers something special for children and adults alike, beginning in our outdoor courtyard transformed into a bustling oasis of artistic design where you can visit the booths of incredible local artists—Afreenz, Thuya, and Amoha—to get your own stunning, intricate henna patterns drawn.
You can also get ready to move with an interactive dance workshop featuring New York’s premier South Asian performing arts organization, the Ajna Dance Company, known for blending classical Indian styles with high-energy Bollywood and Bhangra rhythms. Their professional teaching artists will have parents and kids grooving together.
This celebration is open to families, neighbors, and friends of all ages and backgrounds, whether you celebrate Diwali annually or are experiencing the festival for the very first time. We created this warm and supportive environment to give families a space to make hands-on memories, try new dance steps, and express themselves through traditional body art, honoring Diwali's universal message of hope and the true joy of community togetherness.
Event Highlights Include:
- An interactive dance performance by the renowned Ajna Dance Company – Get ready to dance! Members of Ajna Dance Company will lead an interactive, energy-filled performance, inviting everyone to learn South Asian dance moves together — no experience needed!
