What is Ecstatic Dance?

Ecstatic dance is a free-form movement and dance practice where participants dance without choreography in a completely judgment- free enviroment.

During an ecstatic dance session, a professional DJ will create an intentional set varying in tempo and style, encouraging participants to move in ways that feel natural to them.

This practice emphasizes mindfulness, freedom, self-expression, presence, and a mind-body connection, providing a space for personal exploration and emotional release.

Ecstatic Dance Catered to People of Color

BIPOC Ecstatic Dance is a variation of ecstatic dance specifically catered to Black, Indigenous, and People of Color. The music and themes used in BIPOC Ecstatic Dances often reflect and celebrate the diverse cultures and histories of these communities.

This practice creates a safe and inclusive environment where Black, Indigenous, and People of Color can dance without fear of judgment or cultural appropriation while focusing on healing and empowerment and providing an opportunity for participants to recover from stress and trauma.

These sessions are often organized by members of BIPOC communities and may be facilitated by leaders who guide the dance with music and occasional prompts while prioritizing personal exploration and expression.
