Diverse Women in Law - Cultural Showcase 2025

Welcome to Diverse Women in Law's 2025 Cultural Showcase! This year's theme is "Connection and Healing" which will explore intergenerational and cross-cultural experiences of diverse women in the law.

Through storytelling, music, dance and poetry, we will celebrate the strength and resilience of diverse women in the law and explore shared learnings and healing practices of diverse communities across generations.

Join us for an inspiring evening, showcasing inspiring performances which will bring to life the lived experiences of diverse communites. Come celebrate with us as we honour the power of connection, truth-telling and healing across cultures and witness the stories that ground us in who we are and where we come from!

DWL is proud to introduce our keynote speaker: Australia Sex Discrimination Commissioner, Dr Anna Cody!

Dr Cody started as Australia’s Sex Discrimination Commissioner in September 2023.

Before this, Dr Cody had a distinguished career as an academic, as a lawyer specialising in discrimination and as a passionate advocate for human rights. Her work over the years has included substantial advocacy to various United Nations human rights committees when they have reviewed Australia’s and other nations’ fulfilment of their human rights obligations.

Most recently she was the Dean of the School of Law and Professor at Western Sydney University for 4.5 years, leading education and research impact within the School to better reflect the diversity of the community and the intersection of law and justice.

Diverse Women in Law aims to support those who self-identify as women, non binary and gender diverse through all stages of their legal studies and differing careers and who also self-identify as being from one or more of the following underrepresented backgrounds:

• culturally and linguistically diverse persons;

• Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander persons;

• LGBTQI+ persons;

• people living with a disability;

• people who are or have experienced socioeconomic disadvantage; and

• people with caring responsibilities,

As one of the first not-for-profits of its kind, DWL is on a path to creating tangible change within the legal profession so that it reflects the incredibly diverse Australian society. DWL is focused on improving diversity at all stages of the talent pipeline including entry level, mid-level career lawyers and senior members of the legal profession.
