About this Event

June is the month to celebrate the Victoria and Albert Musuem. On 24 June 1857, Queen Victoria opened the first South Kensington Museum. The collections soon outgrew this building and in 1899 she laid the foundation stone to the new Aston Webb wing and the museum was renamed the Victoria and Albert Museum opening on 26 June 1909.

This tour celebrates highlights of the rich cultural collections of the V&A from Britain and diverse cultures including China, Japan, India, Egypt and Europe. Many have significant religious significance whilst others have gained mythical cultural status. We will also look at some of the decorative architectural features of the building such as the the restaurant rooms and the former front entrance to the museum. The tour is led by a a former member of staff specialising in intercultural connections.
