This class is designed to unlock the playful, imaginative, and deeply human side of performance through the art of clowning. Actors will explore the fundamentals of physical comedy, spontaneous improvisation, and the unique energy of the clown archetype. The course emphasizes emotional honesty, vulnerability, and the courage to fail, encouraging participants to embrace their mistakes and transform them into moments of joy and connection.

Through a series of dynamic exercises, students will cultivate a deep awareness of their bodies and expressions, using movement, sound, and silence to communicate with an audience. They’ll also practice creating character-driven comedy, learning how to embody different types of clowns — from the charming and mischievous to the naïve and innocent — while discovering their own unique clown persona.

The clown is a mirror to the human condition: both absurd and sincere, often finding humor in the most unexpected places. By the end of the course, actors will not only develop their clowning skills but also deepen their understanding of how to use vulnerability, failure, and play as powerful tools in any performance.
