District of Second Chances film screening

Come join the Council for Court Excellence for a special screening of the documentary District of Second Chances at the Ronald Reagan Building and International Trade Center Amphitheater! This film highlights the experiences of three men who were sentenced in their youth to life in Pr*son and have since had the chance to plead for release. Following the screening, we will be joined by the subjects of the documentary, Anthony “Pete” Petty, Gene Downing, and Colie Levar Long, for a panel discussion.

District of Second Chances takes viewers on an emotional journey through the lives of Anthony “Pete” Petty, Gene Downing, and Colie Levar Long—three men who were sentenced to life in Pr*son during the 1990s but are now presented with a chance for freedom and a fresh start. The film brings to light the real-life impact of “second chance” legislation through the eyes of those it directly affects.

Founded in 1982, the Council for Court Excellence (CCE) is a nonprofit, nonpartisan civic organization that envisions a justice system in the District of Columbia that equitably serves its people and continues to be a model for creating stronger and more prosperous communities. CCE identifies and proposes solutions by collaborating with diverse stakeholders to conduct research, advance policy, educate the public, and increase civic engagement.

The Second Chance Hiring Alliance (SCHA)is a coalition of D.C. area employers and employment support providers who create more employment opportunities for justice-impacted individuals by educating and empowering D.C.-area employers.

The screening will take place in the Amphitheater of the Ronald Reagan Building and Interntional Trade Center.

Invited guests are welcome to join us from 5:30 to 6:00 for a reception ccktail hour in the amphitheater foyer. The movie screening will begin at 6:00PM.

Prior to entering the event, guests will need to pass through security. Guests entering the building on foot will pass through a metal detector.
