A conductor’s time on the podium, be it in rehearsal or performance, is the tip of his/her professional iceberg. But what happens in the days/months/years leading up to those moments? Conductor Confidential will give you a peek behind the curtain at a conductor’s training, qualities, and rehearsal preparation, as well as what might be taking place in their inner world as they react to their musicians in rehearsal and concert.
Dr. Gary Auguste Robinson served as Director of the Greenville County Young Artist Orchestra from 1985 to 2022 (with a three-year hiatus from 2016 to 2019, and was Music Director of Greenville’s Foothills Philharmonic from 2000 until 2010. He has appeared as a Guest Conductor with the Greenville Symphony Orchestra and the Spartanburg Philharmonic, is the Founder and former Director of the Metropolitan Chamber Orchestra of Jackson, Mississippi, and has guest conducted university and student festival orchestras.
