About this Event
Join us at Natlab for an exciting workshop by Gabriel Pereira on algorithmic surveillance. This workshop is part of the Technologies Otherwise | Tools for Resistance program.
In this workshop, we will collectively experiment with the materiality of algorithmic surveillance cameras. We will focus on two technologies: facial recognition and automated license plate recognition (ALPR). These cameras will be dissected (both literally and metaphorically) in order to engage with their infrastructural inner-workings. We will experiment in practice how these cameras see us and our surroundings by actually recording videos with them. How are these ways of seeing different than our own? This exploration opens space to consider: What kinds of stories can we tell about these systems through their materiality? This experimentation will help us cultivate more critical paradigms on the role and impact of algorithmic surveillance technologies in society.
Before of the workshop, we also invite you to join Gabriel in a lecture in order to get a better understanding of the transformations emerging from the rise of algorithmic surveillance. You can either register for one of the two events or both. In case you want to attend both events, we set up a little discount for you. You just need to register .
