DISPOSSESSED: A Ghost Story

It is 1893 in Chicago, Illinois, and things could not be looking better for the windy city. Thanks to the fundraising efforts of its civic-minded citizens and the deep pockets of its wealthiest entrepreneurs, Chicago has officially outbid New York City as the host of a World's Fair known as the Columbian Exposition, which people from across the globe will be traveling to see.

Meanwhile, in the heart of the city, the renowned parapsychologist Dr. Zenobia Adlhoch and her trusted partner Edward Hawthorne attempt to eke out a living studying the paranormal without resulting to the charlatanism and parlor tricks that have colored so much of the now-waning Victorian Spiritualist movement. However, when the eccentric and incredibly wealthy Saturnic Order of Hermetic Theosophy commission Zenobia and Edward to contact the ghost of the mysteriously-deceased Chicago socialite Cora Westinghouse in order to gain them exhibitor rights at the upcoming World's Fair, Zenobia finds herself embroiled in a situation which puts her principles and sanity to the test.

DISPOSSESSED is an absurdist historical drama, inhabiting the liminal space between a Victorian ghost story and a classical comedy of manners. It is the latest offering from Ballview Entertainment and the fourth collaboration between David Dickens and Max Zumstein.

The play runs approximately 80 minutes in length with no intermission at the Sherry Theatre, 11052 Magnolia Blvd, North Hollywood, CA 91601.
