Displaced, Not Defeated: Reclaiming Economic Power for Black Women

As part of the Boston Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc.'s May Week 2026, themed Excellence by Design, this program, “Displaced, Not Defeated: Reclaiming Economic Power for Black Women,” explores how we expand the definition of work, ownership, and opportunity in today’s evolving economy.

Across the country, more than 300,000 Black women are navigating layoffs, automation, and caregiving responsibilities. This event reframes those realities, not as setbacks, but as a moment to rethink pathways to stability, wealth, and ownership.

The evening will feature:

• A presentation by Anna Gifty Opoku-Agyeman, sharing insights from The Double Tax
• A fireside chat with Anna and Allegra Stennett (New Majority Capital), exploring barriers in the labor market and pathways to ownership, including business acquisition
• A networking and resource session to connect with advisors, organizations, and peers

Together, we will explore both traditional and nontraditional routes to employment, entrepreneurship, and economic mobility.

In addition, this event will include a brief introduction to the , a national effort focused on advancing research and improving health outcomes for Black women. Attendees will have the opportunity to learn more and connect at an informational table during the event. Use BAC referral code 2101 when you register for the study.
