About the Speaker: Darlene Johnson currently serves as an Associate Director in the U.S. Department of Justice, Office on Violence Against Women (OVW). In this capacity, she manages three complex OVW grant programs: Grants to Reduce Sexual Assault, Domestic Violence, Dating Violence, and Stalking on Campus, Enhanced Training and Services to End Abuse in Later Life Program and the Improving Criminal Justice Responses to Domestic Violence, Dating Violence, Sexual Assault and Stalking Program. These programs provide a continuum of comprehensive intervention and prevention strategies, services, education and/or training to individuals impacted by gender-based violence and promote solutions that are grounded and relevant to their community. Ms. Johnson has a special interest in engaging men and boys work, supporting incarcerated and formerly incarcerated women and girls, elevating the work being done by underserved communities, including minority serving institutions, particularly Historically Black College and Universities, promoting criminal justice reform, and incorporating transformative and/or restorative justice practices as another option for survivors and their communities. She is a 38-year veteran of the Department of Justice, where she has received numerous accolades and awards. She received her Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of the District of Columbia and her Master of Public Administration degree from Bowie State University.
