About this Event

Discover how these incredibly important creatures grow, survive, and support a healthy ecosystem through interactive activities, hands-on exploration, and engaging demonstrations. Learn about the blue crab's incredible life cycle, and uncover what we can all do to help protect this important species. Gabby Saluta, a marine scientist at the Batten School & VIMS, will provide a talk focused on the long-running Blue Crab Winter Dredge Survey - which helps us estimate the number of crabs in the Bay every year!

Discovery Labs are free, family-friendly programs provided each month by educators at the Batten School & VIMS. Designed with elementary-aged youth and their parents in mind, each lab includes exhibits, demonstrations, and hands-on activities as well as a short presentation (from 6:30-7:00 PM) by an expert on the topic.
