About this Event

Expand your understanding of olive oils in an immersive class held in the 1440 Teaching Kitchen. Guided by our Culinary Arts Education faculty and certified wine sommelier, Chef Ryan Fillhardt, you'll explore the Food As Medicine benefits and flavor profiles of six distinct types of olive oil from around the globe. To accompany your workshop, enjoy a glass of wine, small bites designed to inspire your pairings, and meaningful connections with fellow culinarians with a likehearted passion for learning.

Set against the serene backdrop of Joanie’s Garden, this interactive workshop will teach participants how to taste and evaluate extra virgin olive oil (EVOO). Learn to identify key characteristics such as aroma, flavor, bitterness, and pungency, while exploring the health benefits of EVOO within Mediterranean and global diets. You'll also compare regional flavor profiles and discover culinary applications that support overall wellness.

Following the workshop, stroll across the patio to Kitchen Table, where you'll savor a mindfully prepared community dinner. The1440 Culinary Team will share insights into locally sourced seasonal ingredients and how intentional food choices can help you Live Well.

1440 is a philanthropic campus, and each booking contributes to serving our community by providing scholarships and volunteer services in support of creating hope for living well.

Time: 4:00-7:00 p.m.

Discovery Dinner Schedule:

  • 4:00-4:30 p.m.: Arrival & Registration
  • 4:30-6:00 p.m.: Olive Oil Tasting Class with 1440 Culinary Arts Education faculty Chef Ryan Fillhardt
  • 6:00-7:00 p.m.: Dinner at Kitchen Table; sustainable, locally sourced and mindfully prepared
  • 7:00 p.m.: Event Conclusion & Departures

Price: $100 per person. Includes class, small bites and one glass of wine at the Teaching Kitchen; and dinner at Kitchen Table. Please note: Wine and beer may be purchased a la carte during dinner at Kitchen Table.

Dinner Menu:

  • Due to the seasonality of our ingredients, the dinner menu will be published approximately 1 week prior to the event.

Event Notes:

  • The start time of the class is 4:30 p.m., and guests may check into campus up to 30 minutes before the class start to enjoy our Lodge Retail Shop, Bridge of Intentions and Common Grounds Patio. Please note that other locations of campus, including the trails and jacuzzi tub, are not available for Community Education Class guests due to other campus programming.
  • This is an indoor event, held in in the 1440 Teaching Kitchen.
  • 1440 will provide everything required for this class.
  • Reusable water bottles are welcome -- filtered water stations are available throughout campus.
  • Kitchen Table offers ample indoor and outdoor seating, including outdoor covered seating options.
  • This is an 18-and-over event.

Cancellation Policy: Participants may request a refund up to 7 days before the event. After this period, all sales are final. All proceeds from Community Learning Events support our 1440 philanthropic and volunteer efforts.
