Please join Plymouth Sound Divers BSAC for a free public talk at The Bridge Resurant at Mount Batten on Tuesday 22nd of November at 7pm for a 7:30pm talk. Dom Robinson will be giving us an exciting account of his team (Dark Star Diver Team) discovering USS Jacob Jones- The first United States destroyer sunk by enemy action in WWI
Identified off Cornish water in August of 2022, in 110m was USS Jacob Jones which is a recent discovery that made international news worldwide, as the first US ship sunk on the eve of the US becoming involved in WWI.
Dom will be showing the divers video of finding the bell with the name of 'USS JACOB JONES' clearly visible, helping to make the positive identification of the wreck.
That this discovery marks an incredible moment in naval history, since Jacob Jones was the first ever US destroyer to be sunk by an enemy vessel. The loss of the ship was also one of the first major casualties the US suffered after its entry into WWI, and it was tragically ironic, as she’d reportedly “rescued from sinking ships more survivors than any other vessel.”
Please join us for an evening of interesting stories and daring diving from Dom Robinson - head of diving and training with the British Sub-Aqua Club (BSAC)
