Speaker's Comments

"I intend to cover the very basics of wine appreciation. We start with how wine is made and, in particular, how high quality wine is made. I will also talk a bit about Italy and Italian wine and the quality control system - what makes Italy special and different from other countries? Along the way, I will offer some hints and tips about how to identify wines that you will probably enjoy from a restaurant wine list or wine shop shelves. Finally, we will consider how to serve and approach your wine, when you come to taste it - as we move into a guided tasting of 8 quality Italian wines. The session is designed to be informal, enjoyable and informative." -- Gordon Stuteley, CEO GS Wines

Gordon Stuteley has an MBA from Warwick University and worked for 40 years in IT. But, since a very young age, he has always had a passion for good wine! He became interested in Italian regional wines and started to import high quality wines - mainly hand crafted and produced by family-run wineries, from all over Italy.

He has studied the grape varieties, history and wines of Italy and has tasted literally thousands of quality Italian wines and tries to bring the best examples of each type to the UK public. He has conducted numerous wine tastings and talks - both for formal corporate events and informal public events, on all aspects of Italian wine. Over the years, he has built up a strong connection with the Italian winemaking industry as well as a network of private clients and contacts in the London wine industry, and now supplies wine to the UK licensed trade.
