About this Event

Join us at Wild Weekend on Sunday 2 June to learn about nature and meet other Disabled people. There will be a social lunch, quiet hour in the morning, support for people’s access needs, arrange transport if needed, and two BSL tours for Deaf people.


About

Wild Weekend is the Festival of Nature’s Bristol City Centre event, with two days of free family-friendly nature activities, stalls, wildlife film screenings, talks and performances, special guest appearances and much more, down at Bristol’s harbourside.


On the Sunday from 10:00 to 17:00 we will be supporting Disabled people to join us at the events and will be running a social.


The day will include several offerings for Disabled people:

  1. A quiet hour from 10:00 to 11:00
  2. A free lunch for Disabled people to meet other Disabled people at 12:30pm
  3. Two BSL tours at 10am and 1pm
  4. Transport to the event if needed


Accessibility

We can pay for access needs such as a PA or BSL translator, please tell us on the booking form how we can support your visit. There will be accessible toilets on site. The site is next to the Millennium Square car park that has lots of accessible parking: https://www.millenniumsquarecarpark.co.uk/


If you would like to join the lunch, please tell us about your dietary requirements in the booking form. You are welcome to bring your own food to eat if that makes you more comfortable. You are also welcome to join the social lunch and not eat, or you might prefer to miss that part of the event.


We can arrange transport forDisabled people who live in Bristol City that need support getting to the event. This will be a taxi or an accessible taxi. Please let us know if you would to request a pick up and drop off when booking your place, we will do our best to arrange this.

Jargon Buster:

Accessible: When a Disabled person can use or take part in something because their needs have been met.

Accessibility: Whether something is accessible or not.

Access needs: What a Disabled person needs to do or fully take part in something.

British Sign Language (BSL): This is the language used by Deaf people. It uses hand gestures.

Dietary requirements: The needs people have about food. For example if they are vegetarian or allergic to nuts.

Personal assistant (PA): Someone who supports a Disabled person with their access needs.
