About this Event
What is the Event?
The Disability Studies film festival is for all audience members, it is a free event for anyone to participate in. It will be held both virtual and at the UH Manoa John F. Kennedy Theatre. We will be showing three films,
- The Interviewer
- My Disability RoadMap
- Kū Kanaka/Stand Tall
All three films focus on disability experiences.
We will also have special guest speakers Gerard O’Dwyer, the actor from “The Interviewer,” and Marlene Booth, the Director of Kū Kanaka. After our speakers present, there will be a Q&A portion of the event so that the audience can ask any questions they may have.

Why: The Disability Studies Film Festival is a chance to bring our communities from different worlds together and watch three short films about disability experiences. THERE IS FREE FOOD SINCE YOU ARE REGISTERING AND ATTENDING IN PERSON
The event is hosted by: The Disability Studies Initiative, the Developmental Disabilities Division, The Hawai'i State Council on Developmental Disabilities, Centers on Disability Studies, and The Hawai'i Self Advocacy Advisory Council.
These films will speak to self-advocacy and leadership skills. There will be time allotted for discussion.
