Cost: $100 for PTs and $50 for DPT students
Seminar description: This 2.5-hour seminar introduces the 2021 Lumbar Spine Clinical Practice Guidelines (CPGs) and will include a review of the 2012 Lumbar CPGs. Where the principles of directional preference (DP) and centralization apply to classification and intervention and manipulative procedures which support DP and centralization will be practiced. The session will also include analysis of a case study illustrating the relationship to CPG classification and intervention.
Continuing Education Units (CEUs) .25 CEUs will be awarded for this session (2.5 Contact Hours provided by Daemen University)
About the Instructors:
Ron Schenk PT, PhD, OCS, Dip MDT, FAAOMPT Dr. Schenk is a Clinical Professor of Physical Therapy at the Tufts University School of Medicine, where he teaches in the DPT program. Dr. Schenk earned his BS and MS degrees at Ithaca College and his PhD from the University at Buffalo. An AAOMPT Fellow, he is also a Diplomat in Mechanical Diagnosis and Therapy through the McKenzie Institute, USA and is active in clinical practice. He was awarded the AAOMPT “Teach I Must” Award in 2011 and the McKenzie Institute Extension Award in 2016 and the APTA Bowling/Erhard Orthopaedic Clinical Practice Award in 2023. Dr. Schenk has published in peer-reviewed journals and has presented at national and international conferences.
Dr. Favaro is an Assistant Clinical Professor in the Department of Physical Therapy at Daemen University in Amherst, NY. She earned her BS and MS degrees at Ithaca College, her tDPT at D’Youville College, and her DSc from Bellin College. She has been an AAOMPT Fellow since 2009, is certified in Mechanical Diagnosis and Therapy through the McKenzie Institute, USA, and is a board-certified Clinical Specialist in Orthopedic Physical Therapy. Dr. Favaro has peer-reviewed journal publications on topics related to orthopedics and graduate PT education and has presented at state and national conferences.
Dr. Custodi is a physical therapist at an outpatient orthopedic clinic in Jacksonville, Florida. After receiving her DPT degree at Daemen College in 2021, she moved to Jacksonville Florida to complete an Orthopedic Residency with Brooks Rehabilitation. She is now a fellow-in-training in the Brooks Orthopedic Manual PT Fellowship Program, which she will complete in July of 2024. Dr. Custodi is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist, Certified in Blood Flow Restriction Training, and currently working on her Dry Needling Certification. She presented at the 2022 AAOMPT Conference and has clinical and research interests in patients with chronic pain and LBP.
