Directed Open Studio for Jewelry-Making

Laurie Lynn Berezin studied the traditional craft of jewelry fabrication at Boston’s renowned North Bennet Street School and is the Jewelry Shop Lead, a teacher, and a member at the Artisans Asylum non-profit makerspace. Laurie is a seasoned educator, teaching jewelry-making classes, workshops, private lessons, and corporate retreats for novice and experienced metalsmiths alike. She also handcrafts original and custom jewelry for her business, Beryllina, using recycled sterling silver, gold, and platinum, and ethically-mined American gemstones. Laurie creates pieces that showcase the natural beauty of the stones, including crystals that she digs from the earth herself.

Work independently in our Jewelry Shop under the guidance of an experienced professional jeweler who can help you troubleshoot your metalsmithing projects.

Bring your ideas and materials or a project you’ve already begun, and work to complete them in our Jewelry Shop under the guidance of Laurie, Artisans’ Jewelry Shop Lead and professional jeweler. Ask any questions you may have, learn how to troubleshoot issues you encounter, and successfully work towards your goal of completing your project(s). From sawing to soldering to stone setting, Laurie is ready to offer guidance from her years of experience and professional training.

You must have previous jewelry-making experience or have completed Artisans Asylums’ Jewelry 101 class or Jewelry Shop Tool Test. Those who are completely new to jewelry or metalsmithing are encouraged to take Artisans Asylums’ Jewelry 101 class.

There is no materials fee for this class, as students are expected to bring their own materials.

The goal of this class is to provide you with professional guidance for your own metalsmithing projects to help you to complete them successfully!

Bring your own materials, including the metals and stones you intend on using for your project, and ideas for what you would like to make in our well-equipped Jewelry Shop!

You must wear closed-toe shoes and tie back long hair. We have some aprons available, or you may bring your own. A sketchbook for your ideas and notes is useful. Bring eyeglasses or an optivisor if you need optical assistance to see details well.

Students must be 18 years old or older.
