About this Event
Our second May Dinner Social is set—and this time, we’re diving into dim sum at one of Berlin’s go-to hotspots: Bao Gao Club 包餃會🥟! (They are vegan friendly too!)
We’ll gather a table of 30 guests, share rounds of dishes, try a bit of everything, and spend the evening the way dim sum is meant to be—communal, playful, and full of conversation.
🥟 A spread of dim sum classics (Siu Mai / pork and shrimp dumplings; Har Gow / shrimp dumplings; Char Siu Bao / barbecue pork buns; and some surprises)
🍵 Special tea-based cocktails, traditional Chinese tea drinks, and everything in between
✨ Fun social game to get to know each other
📍 Bao Gao Club 包餃會🥟, Prenzlauer Berg
📅 Tuesday, May 26 | 6:30 PM (official start at 7 PM, but feel free to come early and chat with us)
🥢 Everyone orders what they like directly from the menu and pays for their own items at the end.
🥟 Dim Sum Social: A Cantonese Culture Night in Berlin
In cities like Hong Kong, Guangzhou, London, and New York City, dim sum isn’t just food—it’s a ritual.
It’s loud. It’s social. It’s where conversations stretch for hours over tea, where dishes arrive in waves, and where no one ever orders “just one thing.”
But in Berlin, this culture is still quietly hidden.
This month, we’re bringing it to life.
🍵 What is Dim Sum, really?
Dim sum comes from the Cantonese tradition of yum cha (飲茶)—literally “drinking tea.”
Traditionally, it’s a morning-to-brunch ritual: families and friends gathering early in the day to share tea, small dishes, and long conversations.
But as Cantonese culture traveled—especially through Hong Kong immigrants—it evolved.
In Western cities, dim sum has grown into something more flexible: not just breakfast or brunch, but a social experience that can last well into the evening.
This is not a typical dinner event.
This is a social ritual.
🧧 What makes this night different?
We’ve designed this as a cultural experience, not just a meetup:
Story behind the food
Hear from the restaurant founder, a Hong Kong immigrant, on why he brought dim sum culture to Berlin.
Cantonese host-led experience
Guided by a host from the Canton region, you’ll learn:
How dim sum is actually ordered
What dishes to start with (and what locals judge you for 👀)
The unspoken social rules at the table
Your Dim Sum Survival Kit 🥟
A small, beautifully designed guide to help you navigate:
What to order
How to share
What everything means
Where is it happening?
