Join us for an inspiring evening as we explore the dignity of the human person through the lens of immigration. We are excited to welcome Sr. Norma Pimentel, MJ, one of Time Magazine’s 100 Most Influential People of 2020, as our keynote speaker.

Sr. Norma, a nationally recognized advocate for migrant families and Executive Director of Catholic Charities of the Rio Grande Valley, has dedicated her life to providing humanitarian aid to immigrants at the U.S.-Mexico border. Her unwavering commitment to justice and compassion has transformed countless lives.

A message from Sr. Norma:
"Our only mission we have in this journey is to eventually become beacons of hope. That can only happen if we radicalize kindness, gentleness, and tenderness in our homes, communities, country, and the world. This is who we are called to be."

Agenda
Our Calling

Info: Our Calling - Catholic Social Teaching offers guidance in understanding our Call to follow Jesus to love our neighbor and bring about the reign of God. We will discuss Catholic teachings in relation to Immigration.

National Keynote Speaker: Sister Norma Pimentel, MJ

Info: This is the second event in Seeds of Justice Network's two-year series exploring the seven themes of Catholic Social Teaching. As someone who has been on the front lines, witnessing firsthand the challenges and resilience of immigrant communities, Sister Norma brings not only deep knowledge but also hope. In these difficult times, we are grateful for the opportunity to learn from her wisdom and discern how we can best stand in solidarity with our neighbors in need. We will have a Q&A session with the Sister where you will have the opportunity to ask specific questions of her work and how you can get involved to help.

Local Need - From the MICA Project and St. Francis Community Services

Info: We are excited to be able to bring local stories of hope and resilience directly from the leaders of the MICA Project and St. Francis Community Services who have been working tirelessly in our own back yards to help our neighbors. They will be with us to share the immediate need of our local neighbors and how we can help. (https://www.mica-project.org/) (https://sfcsstl.org/) We will have a Q&A session with the speakers where you will have an opportunity to address specific questions after their presentation.

Our Response

Info: What next steps will we take based on how we interpret how our Calling and Need align? We will discuss specific opportunities for action and include community organizations leading in the theme area. This will be your opportunity to meet with local organization tables to learn how you can get involved. There will be several organizations on hand with volunteer opportunities available. We look forward to working together to help ease the burden of these troubling times and help our neighbors in need.
